What is an NVQ?
National Vocational Qualifications or NVQ’s are a work based qualification and assessment which are based on competence in the workplace. NVQ’s are nationally recognised qualifications and are accepted by employers all over the country as evidence of an individual’s ability to do a particular job. This system is completely flexible, new units or new levels can be added to the NVQ qualifications at any time during a career. The NVQ is achieved following assessment by qualified people within the workplace. If you have acquired skills previously but have received no formal qualification, you can apply to have these skills assessed and accredited towards an NVQ.

What is a Modern Apprenticeship?
Modern Apprenticeships are a recognised way of preparing an individual for a career or assisting them to develop within a career. As a Modern Apprentice, training will be in the work place at a time to suit you and your business.

Who are they for?
You must be in employment and in a position where your job allows you to gain the necessary skills and qualifications. The aim is to develop a wide range of skills, to help both the individual and the employer to develop.

Progression
Starting with the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship individuals can progress on to the full Modern Apprenticeship, which in turn can open up a range of further opportunities. When you have finished your apprenticeship you may be able to progress to further or higher education.
