Inspired Learner Sets Up Pioneering Firm
Training & Development
Construction company, Instaat Projects Ltd, is now BBA certified to supply and install external wall insulation systems, after it's managing director Rob Nordhoff, saw a gap in the market whilst completing a Management NVQ with the Centre for Business.
The BBA is the UK's major authority offering approval of construction products, systems and installers. It's certificates act as a kite mark of industry excellence and are awarded after a vigorous process of testing and factory and site inspections.External wall insulation systems are a new form of insulation which is applied to the outside structure of buildings and covered with a specialist rendering system. The effects dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of a building, protecting the environment and boosting cost savings. It also reduces the disruption often associated with installing insulation as it only affects the outside of the building.
Mr Nordhoff realised the importance of the technology and steered his start up business Instaat Projects, towards the market after completing his management qualification. He said, " my NVQ was instrumental when I first started Instaat Projects. I was able to apply the knowledge and experience I gained from my training to quickly cope with my role change from a less senior position in a different company, to director of my own". "It helped give me a fresh perspective on what the company could be achieving, and we were quickly able to identify a gap in the market with the external wall installation technology".
"Since entering this new market, my training has taught me to constantly look at the bigger picture. We were able to work closely with the local manufacturer of the product, Rockwool Ltd, and the BBA, which has led to us achieving our current position as the UK's only BBA approved installer of this insulation. Now we are keen to expand the Welsh Governments policy to assist the Welsh labour market with external wall installation".
Mr Nordhoff's qualification was provided by The Centre for Business, one of the longest established business support organisations in south Wales.
The Centre for Business name was established after Newport and Gwent Enterprise merged with the Newport and Gwent Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since 1982, it has helped businesses get off the ground by running free training workshops and providing bespoke support and advice to areas across south Wales.
