Cake Duo serves up a slice of success!
A speciality cake shop and sandwich bar in Griffithstown has celebrated six months of successful trading with a party to remember.
Truly Tasteful owners, Sian Bessant, 46, from New Inn, and her step-daughter Nicola Clark, 30, from Abersychan, were joined last week by family, friends, customers and suppliers at an elegant and informal party. Together they toasted six months in business with sparkling wine, tasty savouries and a mouth-watering selection of cake samples, showing that with hard work and support you can have your cake and eat it.
Truly Tasteful, which offers a bespoke special occasion cake service alongside its takeaway sandwich bar, was opened on Windsor Road earlier this year with assistance from business support agency, Newport & Gwent Enterprise.
Since opening, Sian and Nicola are expanding their business by offering a personal service and ensuring that their cakes stand out from the competition. The ladies revealed the secret ingredient to their growing business. “A handmade cake is like a personal gift. We use the finest natural ingredients and create personal, contemporary and quirky cakes for our customers.
The real high points over the last six months have been the increase in cake orders and the massive support from local businesses and customers. We have had a successful summer, and are now looking forward to a busy wedding fair season. If we continue to grow we will look to take on staff in the future, but at present we are doing well as a team.”
Having been referred from the Jobcentre, Sian and Nicola have worked closely with business adviser, Tim Williams of Newport & Gwent Enterprise, through issues including planning permission and marketing of their new business. Tim said: “Both Sian and Nicola have worked hard to make their idea become a reality. They have years of experience in the retail food sector and have an excellent knowledge of the market place. This knowledge and experience has given them the confidence to get the business started and drive it forward in a very short period.”
